Cubs News: Bad news regarding Jake Arrieta's elbow injury |
PHILADELPHIA — Since signing with the Philadelphia Phillies prior to the 2018 season, former Chicago Cubs ace
Jake Arrieta has not been the same pitcher that he was with the North Siders. Part of Arrieta's struggles this season can be pinned on an elbow issue that the starting hurler was attempting to battle through in recent weeks.
Unfortunately for Arrieta, who signed a three-year, $75 million contract with the Phillies last March, the Phillies announced on Saturday that the righty would undergo surgery later this month to remove bone spurs from his right elbow. While Arrieta is expected to be healthy by the time that pitchers and catchers report to spring training in mid-February, his 2019 season is officially over. Jake Arrieta will have season-ending surgery to address the bone spur in his elbow at the end of August. #Phillies expect he should have plenty of time to be ready for spring training.
