SAN DIEGO — Chicago Cubs closer was placed on the 10-day injured list last week due to soreness in his right elbow. The right-hander is eligible to come off the injured list on Thursday but is not expected to rejoin the Cubs' active roster until this weekend at the earliest.

Kimbrel partook in a bullpen session at Petco Park on Tuesday, but, according to the Cubs, he is unlikely to toe the rubber during live action in the Cubs' 4-game series versus the San Diego Padres. Instead, Kimbrel is likely to be ready to resume pitching once the Cubs return home for their upcoming 10-game homestand.
