Cubs Charities award nearly $1 million to 17 projects across Chicago

CHICAGO – Cubs Charities today announced the recipients of the 2020 Diamond Project capital grants which awarded $950,500 to support 17 projects across Chicago, with funding going towards a wide variety of projects including field maintenance and improvements, scoreboard installation and the development of a 110,000-square-foot sports facility in North Austin.

Through the Diamond Project, Cubs Charities has committed more than $9.7 million since 2014 to fund 90 capital improvement projects and 72 youth programs while providing new sports equipment across Chicago. Funds and equipment are awarded to nonprofit, neighborhood-based organizations to support baseball and softball leagues and capital improvement projects that improve the quality, safety and accessibility of local baseball and softball fields or indoor training facilities.

“Now more than ever as we emerge from this pandemic, sport is uniquely positioned to help us rebuild our connections and support a process of healing after an incredibly challenging 2020,” said Cubs Charities Executive Director Alicia Gonzalez. “Through the Diamond Project, Cubs Charities is committed to utilizing sport to strengthen our Chicago communities and supporting safe places to play with quality programing for our Chicago children and families.”
