Cubs announce multi-year agreement with team affiliates |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today announced the organization has agreed on two-year Player Development Contract extensions with Triple-A Iowa, Double-A Tennessee, Single-A Myrtle Beach and Single-A South Bend through the 2022 season. Single-A Eugene signed a four-year extension through 2022, announced this past August.
“We could not be happier to extend our five affiliates through at least the next four seasons. The clubs have been wonderful partners for our players both on the field and in their respective communities,” said Jason McLeod, the Cubs Senior Vice President, Scouting and Player Development. “Continuing these relationships with our affiliates is a testament to each club’s leadership, first-class staff and facilities and loyal fan bases.” Prior to these extensions, Eugene had been signed through 2018 while Iowa, Tennessee, Myrtle Beach and South Bend had already been extended through the 2020 campaign. The affiliation between the Cubs and Iowa began in 1981, and this extension guarantees at least 42 years of partnership between the two organizations. Of the 160 teams in Minor League Baseball, this is the ninth-longest current affiliate relationship between a major league team and a minor league club. The Cubs first worked with the Tennessee ball club in 2007. Myrtle Beach, South Bend and Eugene joined the organization beginning in 2015. At least one Cubs minor league team has won a league championship in each of the last six seasons beginning in 2013, including Myrtle Beach in both 2015-16, Eugene in both 2016 and 2018 and the Arizona League Cubs in 2017.
