The Chicago Cubs confirmed on Tuesday that they have three internal candidates to replace Joe Maddon with special assistant to the president David Ross, bench coach Mark Loretta, and first-base coach Will Venable.

There will probably be external candidates as well as Raul Ibanez from the Seattle Mariners has been reported as a potential candidate by MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

"Raul Ibañez, long viewed as a candidate for the #SFGiants managerial vacancy, will be considered by the #Cubs, as well," Jon Morosi posted. "Has big-market experience as a player, front-office background with #Dodgers, and is an exceptional communicator in English and Spanish."

"We're looking for someone who can help the whole be as good or exceed the sum of the parts," Epstein said of what Cubs executives are looking for in the managerial search. "We want a manager who can get the most out of each individual player."
