Cubs announce update to Contreras' injury |
Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras was injured during Wednesday's game as he trying to leg out an infield single in the seventh inning.
It appeared that his right hamstring gave way half way down the baseline. He walked gingerly off the field with the help the Cubs training staff. Contreras was recently named National League Player of the Month for hitting 10-for-22 with five homers and 12 RBIs. Since the All-Star break, he is batting .311 with 10 homers and 29 RBIs. The Chicago Cubs announced on Friday evening that Contreras officially has a 'moderate hamstring strain' and they project a timetable of 4-to-6 weeks for his full recovery. They hope to get him pain-free in the next two weeks and then step up the rehab process. The team will announce a new timetable in two weeks based on his progress with the hamstring injury. Fortunately, for the Cubs, if they make the playoffs, Contreras should be healed up and ready to go. Contreras told reporters on Friday evening that he doesn't want to rush his rehab. "I'm not going to rush anything," Contreras said. "I'm going to make sure when I get back it's 100%."
