CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today claimed outfielder Johnny Field off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. The club’s 40-man roster now stands at 36 players.

Field, 26, made his major league debut in 2018 and saw action in 83 games with the Tampa Bay Rays and Minnesota Twins, batting .222 (49-for-221) with 13 doubles, nine home runs and 21 RBI. The right-handed batter and thrower played in 34 games in left field, 32 games in right field and 15 games in center field. Field also played in 25 games at the Triple-A level last year, batting .258 (23-for-89) with a .340 on-base percentage.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Field was originally selected by Tampa Bay in the fifth round of the 2013 Draft out of the University of Arizona. He is a career .270 hitter (572-for-2,121) with a .771 OPS covering six minor league seasons.
