The Chicago Cubs (80-66) will begin a three-game series with their rival St. Louis Cardinals at 1:20 p.m. CDT on Friday afternoon televised on ABC 7 Chicago and MLB Network. The Cubs are in sole possession of first place ahead of the Cardinals and Brewers by three games in the National League Central division.
The North Siders are currently 5-5 in their last ten games as the Cardinals, and the Brewers are right in the thick of things in the divisional race. Veteran righty John Lackey will start for the defending World Champions opposed by righty flamethrower Carlos Martinez. In 2017, Lackey has an 11-11 record with 4.65 ERA with 140 strikeouts. He has been impressive in his last ten starts with a 3.67 ERA. Both Ben Zobrist and Willson Contreras are back in the starting lineup after having a day off on Thursday evening.
