The Chicago Cubs (34-34) will battle the San Diego Padres at 7:05 p.m. CDT in the series opener on Monday night at Wrigley Field televised on CSN Chicago. There could be some weather issues tonight because the tarp is currently being put on the field because of some dark clouds in the area.

Veteran lefty Jon Lester will take the mound for the defending World Champions as they try to find a way to win back-to-back games. Lester is 4-4 on the year with a 3.89 ERA and 86 strikeouts. However, he is impressive at home with 3-1 record and 2.65 ERA.

Former Cubs starter Clayton Richard will oppose Lester on the mound for the Padres.

One lineup note is that first baseman Anthony Rizzo will leadoff again after being a spark plug for the last five games. He drilled his 150 career homer run during Sunday's contest.

The Cubs are currently still in second place in the National League Central (2.5 GB) behind the Milwaukee Brewers.
