Cubs reduce spring roster to 49 players

MESA – The Chicago Cubs today assigned 13 players to minor league camp, reducing their spring roster from 62 to 49 players.

Right-handed pitchers Adbert Alzolay, Oscar De La Cruz and Duane Underwood Jr. have been optioned to Double-A Tennessee.

Ten non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: Right-handed pitchers Craig Brooks, David Garner, and Thomas Hatch; left-handed pitchers Alberto Baldonado, Daniel Camarena and Michael Roth; infielder Jason Vosler; outfielders Charcer Burks and Bijan Rademacher; and catcher Ian Rice.

Chicago’s spring roster of 49 players consists of 26 pitchers (three non-roster invitees), five catchers (three non-roster invitees), 12 infielders (four non-roster invitees) and six outfielders (two non-roster invitees).
