Cubs trade Miguel Montero to Blue Jays |
The Chicago Cubs announced on Monday morning that they have traded veteran catcher Miguel Montero to the Blue Jays for a player to be named or cash considerations. Montero was designated for assignment last Wednesday and the team called up 23-year old catching prospect Victor Caratini.
According to MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs are picking up the vast majority of Montero’s $7M salary. Montero is batting .286 with four homers and eight RBI through 44 games this season. On the defensive side of things, he was 0-31 on throwing out base stealers in 2017. He will be awkwardly reunited with his old teammates as the Cubs host the Blue Jays for a three-game set on Aug. 18-20.
