Cubs will reportedly non-tender Jose Martinez |
The Chicago Cubs have non-tendered outfielder Jose Martinez according to multiple reports including ESPN.
Martinez was hitless in 21 at-bats including one walk and seven strikeouts with the Cubs in 10 games this past season. He was arbitration-eligible and was projected to make around $2 million for 2021. The Cubs cut their ties before having to pay that for the veteran player that they received in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. The Cubs sent their 14th best prospect with infield prospect Pedro Martinez and cash for Jose Martinez during a midseason trade last season. For his career, the veteran hitter is a solid .289 hitter with 43 homers and 182 RBI. Can confirm @JesseRogersESPN's report that Jose Martinez will be non-tendered by the Cubs. The deadline is 7 pm. CT tonight. Martinez went 0-for-21 in his stint with Chicago, following a trade with Tampa Bay.
