Jake Arrieta probably envisioned himself starting Opening Day for the Philadelphia Phillies. However, Arrieta was assigned to Class A Clearwater to get into better pitching form for his debut.

Since his agent Scott Boras waited so long for him to sign a three-year $75 million deal with the Phillies on March 12, the 32-year old will make his first start with the big league team on April 8 against Miami.

In two spring starts, Arrieta gave up 10 hits, two homers, a balk, a throwing error, and six runs in only five innings. That's a ton of hits in five innings so the Phillies are hopeful that he will knock the rust off while he is tucked away in the minors.

In 2017 with the Cubs, Arrieta had a 14-10 record with 3.53 ERA, 163 strikeouts, and 1.22 WHIP.

The Cubs have moved on from Arrieta as newcomer Yu Darvish will make his regular-season debut Saturday against the Miami Marlins.
