Cubs News: Jake Arrieta to start on Thursday

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jake Arrieta will start Thursday night's game against the Brewers at Miller Park which will be his first action since Sept. 4.

Arrieta has battled back from his grade one right hamstring strain and will be on a pitch count of around 75 to 80 pitches tomorrow. He had a successful 25 pitch bullpen session on Tuesday which enabled the team to feel comfortable with him starting on Thursday.

For the 2017 season through 28 starts, Arrieta has a 3.48 ERA with a 14-9 record with 157 strikeouts and 1.20 WHIP.

Arrieta, John Lackey, Kyle Hendricks, and Jose Quintana will face the second-place Brew Crew in that order as this series is extremely important with the Cubs holding a 3.5 game advantage over the Brewers.

Cubs magic number stands at only nine games for postseason play.
