Cubs News: Jake Arrieta's MRI update |
Jake Arrieta limped off the field in the third inning with a leg injury on Monday afternoon. Arrieta grabbed the back of his right leg near his hamstring after the pitch that he was hurt on.
The veteran righty tried to throw a practice pitch to see if he could continue in the game but stopped quickly without even throwing the ball. He walked off in severe pain with the trainers and manager Joe Maddon as his day ended after 2 1/3 innings and giving up three runs including two homers by Josh Bell and Max Moroff respectively. The MRI that Arrieta had on Tuesday showed a Grade 1 right hamstring strain and he will be out around seven to ten days and will miss one start and possibly two starts. "It stinks to miss any time at all, but it should be short," Arrieta said to reporters after Tuesday night's game. Montgomery will replace him on Saturday while Kyle Hendrick gets the nod on Sunday.
