Cubs News: Kris Bryant on adding Bryce Harper as a teammate

by - Senior Editor -

Major league baseball insider Peter Gammons was on Mully and Hanley on 670 The Score last week and shared an interesting rumor about the possibility of the Cubs adding slugger Bryce Harper to their lineup after the 2018 season.

In 2017, Harper is batting .328 with 15 homers, 43 RBI, and .438 on-base percentage. For his impressive career, he is .282 hitter with 136 homers, 377 RBI, and .386 on-base percentage.

Chicago Cubs reporters had to ask Kris Bryant about the idea of playing with his buddy that grew up with him in Las Vegas.

“I think we might have talked about it, just like messing around,” Bryant said via CSN's Insider Patrick Mooney. “Like it would be cool to play with you again.”

Bryant knows that with the excitement around the Cubs, there will be plenty of free agents that will want to come to Wrigley Field to play.

“Honestly – obviously I’ve never been an outsider looking in here – but who wouldn’t want to play here?” Bryant said. “Especially now, with everything going on around here, the renovations, winning, it just seems attractive to any player. A lot of the guys that have come over from other teams are like: ‘This is unlike any other team I’ve played for.’”

The likelihood that the Cubs can afford both players in the prime of their baseball careers is very low, but it is certainly something to monitor as we move forward.
