Cubs News: Kris Bryant's grievance case update |
Finally, after four years, there is closure.
Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant has lost his grievance case against the team according a report by ESPN on Wednesday. "While the decision of Major League Baseball arbitrator Mark Irvings' ruling in favor of the team was long expected, sources said, it definitively locks in Bryant's value as Chicago considers trading him," Jeff Passan wrote. "With two seasons of team control, the Cubs can seek a far greater return than they could have had Bryant won and accelerated his free agency." The decision will make Bryant a free agent after the 2021 season and not a year earlier. The official written findings will likely become public by the end of the week. Bryant will be 30-years old during the winter when he will be able to test free agency. The 3-time All-Star hit .281 with 31 homers and 77 RBIs this past season and will make $18.6 million in 2020. During his five-year major league career, he has hit .284 with 138 homers and had a .901 OPS. #Cubs relieved win arbitration case which dramatically increases trade value of 3B Kris Bryant now confirmed with 2yrs of control instead of one remaining.
