Maddon to Cubs fans: "Go ahead and freak out"

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs (25-24) were swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday evening and the two teams look like they are going in polar opposite directions. One could argue that the Dodgers look like the more talented and balanced team as the Cubs can only score with the long ball as they were 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position during the three-game set.

However, the poor play could be simply that the Cubs ran into a very hot and talented pitching trio and will get things right against the Padres in the upcoming series.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon was asked in the post-game interview on Sunday night what to tell Cubs fans that were expecting more this season and not currently third-place in the National League Central race.

"Please, go ahead and freak out," Maddon said to reporters via ESPN.com. "If you want to freak out, freak out."

Obviously, Maddon was being a little sarcastic and funny but it appears that he knows that Cubs fans are expecting more with such a talented roster.

Cubs nation won't have to wait long to see how Maddon's team faces adversity as they will battle the Padres on Monday at 3:40 PM CDT at Petco Park in San Diego, CA.
