Nationals announce starter for NLDS Game 5

by - Senior Editor -

The Washington Nationals announced that Gio Gonzalez will get the start for tonight's game against the Chicago Cubs at Nationals Park at 7:08 p.m. CT on TBS.

This is one day after the back and forth with the mystery of whether standout pitcher Stephen Strasburg would take the mound for game four.

Cubs standout pitcher Kyle "Professor" Hendricks will oppose Gonzalez on the mound.

Lurking in the bullpen for the Nationals will be Max Scherzer who will be available for multiple innings in the elimination game.

Gonzalez has 15-9 record with 2.96 ERA, 188 strikeouts, and 1.18 WHIP this season. For his career, he has a 3.64 ERA with a 117-86 record, 1600 strikeouts, and 1.30 WHIP.

In game two of the NLDS against the Cubs, he went five innings giving up three hits, three runs, two walks, and six strikeouts.

Back in the 2012 NLDS for the Nationals in a game five, he went five innings giving up three runs.

He was drafted with the 38th overall pick in the first round of the 2004 MLB Draft.
