Cubs News: Report: Jason Heyward headed to the DL

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward left Sunday's game in the fourth inning with a wrist injury and will now head to the 10-day disabled list on Thursday according to a report by Patrick Mooney.

Heyward had a left-hand abrasion (see pic below) while sliding for a baseball in foul territory. He stayed in to bat in the third inning where he lined out on the play and then was substituted on defense when the team went back out for the fourth inning on Sunday. His wrist was seen wrapped up in the dugout by the team doctor.

The injury did not heal as fast as the Cubs were hoping and he will be able to be back with the team in early July since his DL time will be retroactive since Monday.

In other moves by the Cubs today, Kyle Schwarber will be demoted to Triple-A while outfielder Mark Zagunis and righty Dylan Floro will be added to the big-league roster.

Zagunis is an interesting prospect that is hitting .249 with 11 home runs and 35 RBI at Triple-A Iowa. He's a third-round draft pick out of Virginia Tech who is a patient hitter that is currently batting leadoff in the minors.
