Theo Epstein on Cubs' road woes: 'We're embarrassed.'

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — The Chicago Cubs have not won a road series since May 20, and they just finished up a shaky 3-6 road trip that saw them lose three consecutive series away from home. Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein discussed the road woes in an appearance on 670 The Score's Mully & Haugh Show on Friday and was brutally honest.

"We've played well on the road most years in this window," Epstein said. "But this year, honestly, we're embarrassed by the road performance, not having won a road series since May 20."

Epstein elaborated by saying that the Cubs are "trying to figure it out" in reference to the road struggles and also pointed out that the Cubs, who are 21-33 overall in away games, are 0-7 in road series against division opponents this season. Claiming that not being able to consistently come out on top in road contests is "just not going to win anything," Epstein essentially stated that the Cubs will have no shot at accomplishing anything down the stretch if their road play does not improve.

"That's not going to be competitive in a division if every time you go play a division opponent on the road, you lose," Epstein said. "That has to change. That has to change immediately."
