WATCH: Baez makes unreal cross-body throw to out Yadier Molina

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs middle infielder Javier Baez and St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina are great friends from their time spent playing on the Puerto Rican national team together, and Baez got the upper hand over his friend in the Cardinals-Cubs matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Manning shortstop, Baez chased down a hard-hit grounder off the bat of Molina in the top of the third. Despite bobbling the ball while running to his right, Baez was able to gain control of it with just enough time to gun a throw across the diamond for an out.

Making a perfect cross-body throw right into the mitt of Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo, Baez recorded one of the most impressive defensive plays of his career. A former full-time shortstop, Baez, who is now a regular second baseman, has consistently made the case throughout his Cubs career for being the most talented middle infielder in baseball.
