WATCH: Baez slides into third base like a boss

by - Senior Writer -

Whether or not Javier Baez is the coolest player in baseball is not debatable; it is a cold, hard fact. The Chicago Cubs shortstop added to his already lengthy list of iconic moments by sliding into third base in the coolest way possible against the Miami Marlins on Thursday.

"El Mago" is probably the only player in the majors who could slide feet first into third base and somehow look like he belongs on the cover of a romance novel while doing it. In the first inning, Baez motored from first to third on a single to right and seemed to intentionally slide over and passed the bag while suavely looking over his shoulder just so that he could latch onto the base with his fingertips to cap off the coolest slide ever. Baez's epic slide did not go unrewarded, as he was scored on an ensuing single.

For a brief moment, the Marlins' third baseman appeared to think that he had a chance of tagging Baez out as his slide carried him over the bag, but, in typical Baez fashion, "Javy" grabbed the edge of the base at the last possible second to make the third baseman look foolish and make himself look like the Rico Suave of Major League Baseball.
