WATCH: Baez swings at first pitch, sends it flying for 430-foot moonshot

by - Senior Writer -

Chicago Cubs slugger Javier Baez has never been shy about swinging for the fences, and he wasted no time in doing so at the start of the second inning against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. Mariners starter Marco Gonzales made the mistake of throwing Baez a sinker over the heart of the plate on the first pitch in the top of the second, and "El Mago" powered it out for his 10th home run of the season.

A moonshot, the leadoff dinger was smoked off the bat at 111 miles per hour and floated 430 feet into the seats behind right-center field. The high, arcing bomb had a launch angle of 29 degrees, and it put the Cubs up 1-0 over the Mariners. Baez reached the 10-homer mark in just 124 plate appearances this year, which is the fewest plate appearances that he has needed to reach that milestone in his career.
