WATCH: Cardinals announcer salty after Rizzo's go-ahead double

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Just two days after sticking his foot mouth by claiming that St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong deserves the Gold Glove at second base in the National League over the Chicago Cubs' Javier Baez just before Wong committed an error, Cardinals commentator Tim McCarver made another questionable remark.

With the Cubs battling the Cardinals in the regular-season finale, Chicago entered the contest in a tie with the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the National League Central. Therefore, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo was naturally fired up after hitting a go-ahead double to put the Cubs up 3-2 in the bottom of the third.

Highlighting a four-run rally that the Cubs put together with two outs in the third, the double toward the wall in right-center that Rizzo hit brought with it a rowdy celebration from a fired-up Rizzo at second base. Evidently salty after watching his team give up the go-ahead run to the rival Cubs, McCarver had the gall to say that Rizzo's pumped-up theatrics after what might have been his most important hit of the season were "a bit much."

McCarver, a former catcher with the Cardinals and a longtime MLB commentator, has a history of irking players with his holier-than-thou commentary, and criticizing a player for celebrating after providing his team with a lead with the divisional crown on the line was definitely more unprofessional than what Rizzo did.
