WATCH: Contreras comes up clutch with bases-clearing double

by - Senior Writer -

Chicago Cubs catcher Willson Contreras showed no trepidation when taking a big hack at an 0-2 breaking ball in the first inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday, and it paid off for the Cubbies. Down to his final strike with two outs and the bases juiced, Contreras came up clutch with a bases-clearing double that was lined past third base and into left field.

Coming off Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda, the 3-run double put the Cubs up 3-0 and increased Contreras' season RBI total to 16. Cubs second baseman Daniel Descalso followed it up with an RBI double of his own that landed just fair in the left-field corner and plated Contreras to provide Chicago with a 4-run first frame.
