WATCH: Contreras gets in on home-run action, swats 2-run blast in ninth inning

by - Senior Writer -

In a contest that had already featured five Chicago Cubs home runs, catcher Willson Contreras made it six with a 2-run bomb in the ninth inning against the Washington Nationals on Friday. Contreras added to the Cubs' already vast lead by putting them ahead 14-4 with his 11th dinger of 2019.

Marking the second homer given up by Nationals reliever Matt Grace in the ninth, the 397-foot blast was scorched off the bat at 106 miles per hour. The home run was part of a stellar plate performance by Contreras, who went 4-for-5 on the night, and it scored shortstop Javier Baez after he reached base via an infield single in the preceding at-bat.
