A little bit of luck can go a long way in baseball, and the Chicago Cubs benefited from a lucky bounce in the opening inning against the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. Cubs catcher Willson Contreras converted a dribbler down the third-base line into a 2-run double, thanks to a fortunate ricochet.

The ball pinged off Contreras' bat and carried directly down the third-base line until it made contact with the third-base bag, bounced into the air and sailed into left field. The 2-bagger came with two outs and runners on second and third, and it plated both men on base to increase Contreras' RBI total to 27 and provide the Cubs with an early 2-0 lead. The clutch double served as the first 2-out RBI hit of any kind for Contreras this season.
