WATCH: Highlights from Cubs' 2-1 win against Dodgers

by - Senior Writer -

LOS ANGELES — The Chicago Cubs (39-31) may have mustered just three hits against the Los Angeles Dodgers (47-24) at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night, but one of those three hits was the biggest hit of the contest. Swatting a go-ahead 2-run homer in the top of the ninth, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo went yard off elite Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen for his 19th dinger of the season and essentially won the game for the Cubs.

While Rizzo's blast served as the most important play of the game, the theme of the evening was stellar starting pitching, as the Cubs' Yu Darvish and the Dodgers' Walker Buehler both dominated on the mound. Darvish struck out 10 batters in an impressive 7-inning start, while Buehler, who also went seven innings, worked a no-hitter into the sixth. Jansen was not as efficient while toeing the rubber, though, with the reliever blowing a save opportunity by getting taken deep by Rizzo.
