by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Blazing heat made for an interesting Friday afternoon at Wrigley Field, with a game that was played on a scorching day in Chi-Town featuring a slew of lead changes and boneheaded defensive blunders. In the end, the Chicago Cubs (53-44) came out on top of the frenetic affair with the San Diego Padres (46-51), winning by a final score of 6-5.

The Padres committed two errors in the bottom of the eighth, resulting in the Cubs scoring the final go-ahead run. Earlier in the contest, Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo both went yard for the Cubs. Rizzo smacked a grand slam that put the Cubs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, and Baez went on to swat a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.
