CHICAGO — For a game that was fairly uneventful through the first 6 1/2 innings, Friday's clash at Wrigley Field between the Chicago Cubs (48-43) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (44-46) sure did feature plenty of late-inning drama. A go-ahead home run by Kris Bryant put the Cubs up 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh, and a bevy of exciting plays followed.

The Cubs tabbed three runs in the seventh to take a 3-0 lead, but Starling Marte of the Pirates evened the score by crushing a monstrous 3-run home run out onto Waveland Avenue in the eighth. The Cubs were able to retake the lead, though, thanks to a 2-out RBI single by Jason Heyward that plated Bryant in the bottom of the eighth. Then, the Cubs held on for the 4-3 win, with a replay review confirming the final out on a superb play made by Anthony Rizzo at first base.
