ST. LOUIS — The Chicago Cubs (57-50) shut out the St. Louis Cardinals (57-50) at Busch Stadium on Wednesday, thanks in large part to a scoreless outing by starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks. Hendricks pitched seven shutout innings, in which he fanned seven, and received the winning decision.

Offensively, the Cubs took a 1-0 lead in the sixth frame by way of a 2-out RBI base knock off the bat of center fielder Ian Happ, which marked Happ's first RBI of the season. Then, in the eighth, shortstop Javier Baez came home from second base due to a throwing error, resulting in the eventual final score of 2-0.
