CHICAGO — Although the Chicago Cubs (41-33) tallied six runs in one inning en route to winning 7-4 against the New York Mets (35-40) at Wrigley Field on Thursday, the story of the game did not at all involve the Cubs' offense. Rather, pitcher Adbert Alzolay, who made his Cubs debut after getting promoted from Triple-A earlier in the day, stole the show and earned the winning decision.

Pitching four innings out of the bullpen. Alzolay allowed just one hit, which was a solo home run, and two walks and struck out five in a stellar outing that served as his introduction to the big leagues. The right-hander received a standing ovation from the fans as he exited the field in the top of the ninth. At the dish for the Cubs, shortstop Javier Baez recorded an RBI triple and a solo jack in his 2-for-4 plate performance. The triple came in the aforementioned 6-run third inning, and the seventh-inning solo dinger marked Baez's 99th career homer.
