WATCH: Highlights of Cubs' shutout victory over Twins

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — One run was all that Chicago Cubs (31-20) ace Kyle Hendricks needed to work with on Friday, as he kept the Minnesota Twins (31-22) off the scoreboard in his eight innings of work and earned the winning decision. The Cubs worked a shutout in their series-opening win over the Twins, coming away with a 1-0 victory at Wrigley Field.

Former Cub Rich Hill started on the mound for the Twins and received no run support over the course of his seven innings pitched. Hendricks struck out a season-high 10 batters, and the Cubs' lone run was scored early on, with Anthony Rizzo crossing the plate on a first-inning RBI single hit by Willson Contreras.
