SAN FRANCISCO — Reaching the 25-homer mark for the season, Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez provided his club with an early lead over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday afternoon. Smacking a solo shot in the top of the first, Baez put the Cubs up 1-0 at Oracle Park.

The high drive came on a first-pitch fastball from Giants starter Tyler Beede. Baez got underneath the four-seamer and sent it flying off the bat at an angle of 34 degrees. With the 411-foot jack to left field, Baez made it to the 25-homer plateau for the second year in a row.
