WATCH: Javy Baez with the defensive gem of the year

Chicago Cubs second baseman Javy Baez is making defensive play after defensive play on the diamond against the Washington Nationals on Monday night.

Baez darted 132 feet into foul territory before laying out for the impressive catch near the edge of the stands. According to Statcast, he was running 19.4 MPH when he slid and caught the ball.

CSN's Len Kasper said the following about the remarkable catch during the live broadcast.

"2/3 of the world is covered by water, the other 1/3 is covered by Javier Baez," Kasper said.
