PITTSBURGH — Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jon Lester is known for his fiery presence on the mound, and he showed it off against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday. Lester expressed his displeasure with the home-plate umpire on several occasions, including an instance that featured Lester flashing a hideous facial expression fit for a horror movie.

In his start at PNC Park, Lester pitched six scoreless innings, in which he gave up five walks and four hits while striking out three. At one point, Lester escaped a jam in which the Pirates loaded the bases with no outs. Although Lester maintained his composure in the pitching department, he let his irritation with the home-plate umpire shine through on multiple occasions, leading to some unsightly grimacing.
