WATCH: Kris Bryant tickles Starlin Castro as part of weird bench-clearing spat

CHICAGO — With yet another example of hypersensitivity in Major League Baseball, Chicago Cubs catcher Victor Caratini and Miami Marlins left fielder Derek Dietrich got into a brief, unnecessary spat at home plate on Tuesday night.

After Dietrich was gunned down by a mile on a throw from Cubs right fielder Ben Zobrist when attempting to score on a single to right, Dietrich intentionally collided with Caratini at the dish in an attempt at dislodging the ball from Caratini's mitt.

Caratini held onto the ball, and the out was called. However, despite Dietrich then tipping his batting helmet to Caratini out of respect, the Cubs' fill-in catcher took umbrage at Dietrich's tenacity and confronted him in a rather benign face-to-face confrontation.

Since the MLB has become known for inane bench-clearing skirmishes, the bullpens and dugouts emptied in a hurry. And, exemplifying how ridiculous the situation was, the confrontation became nothing more than veteran Cubs players joking around with current Marlins and former Cubs second baseman Starlin Castro.

In fact, Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant, who, unsurprisingly, is not much of a fighter, resorted to tickling his former teammates.

Thankfully, the situation was quickly resolved, and no meaningless melee came to fruition. Chalk it up as yet another example of a stupid spat over one of baseball's "unwritten rules" being violated.
