WATCH: Maddon furious over overturned call, gets ejected |
Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon was ejected after a replay was overturned on a great throw by Kyle Schwarber and tag at home plate by Willson Contreras in the seventh inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night.
Initially the baserunner was called out but the call was overturned because of the 'blocking the plate' 713 rule. "An amazing, athletic play by Contreras and Schwarber has a chance to be taken away by the silliest of rules," TBS commentator Ron Darling said. Maddon ran onto the field and argued the call as he pointed his finger at the different umpires. As a former catcher, Maddon really hates the rule that doesn't give the catcher any chance to do much of anything. The Dodgers incredibly scored a run without ever touching home plate. Accordindg to Retrosheet, the last Cubs manager ejected in the postseason was back in the 1935 World Series. Check out the video below. Joe Maddon is NOT happy! #Cubs #NLCS pic.twitter.com/CgZgHR7tGd
Brutal call
Dad I love you. LA I hate you.
Exactly what he did is how we’ve all practiced for years. https://t.co/BgyXbcvd8q
