The St. Louis Cardinals have had an outbreak of COVID-19 with a reported 13 individuals getting positive tests this week.

The team's superstar Yadier Molina announced on Tuesday that he was one of the individuals that was COVID-19 positive.

“I am saddened to have tested positive for COVID-19, even after following the prevention recommendations," Molina said on social media via google translation. "I will do everything in my power to return as soon as possible for fans of the Cardinals, the city of St. Louis and my teammates. As I recover, I request that my privacy and that of my family be respected during my absence from the team. Blessings!”

The Cubs are scheduled to face off against the Cardinals starting on Friday and it appears the Redbirds will have a much different lineup including the probable loss of Molina for a while.

Best wishes to the 38-year-old veteran and hopefully he and the rest of the Cardinals get better soon.

Other Cardinals players that tested positive include infielders Paul DeJong, Edmundo Sosa, and Rangel Ravelo, and pitchers Junior Fernández and Kodi Whitley.

“I am disappointed to share that I have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, even though I followed team protocols,” stated DeJong in a press release. “I will approach my healing as I do all other things in my life – with education, commitment, and persistence. I look forward to re-joining the team soon and ask that you respect my privacy at this time.”
