Maddon becomes highest-paid manager in MLB |
Cubs manager Joe Maddon received an increase in his salary after the Cubs won the 2016 World Series. He had an escalator in his contract put in by the Cubs and his agent that if he won the World Series his salary would bump from $5 million to $6 million for the last three years of his contract.
His new $6 million salary ties him as the highest paid manager in baseball with Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia and San Fransisco Giants manager Bruce Bochy. Maddon was the National League Manager of the Year in 2016 and was a finalist this past season. Overall, he has won three Manager of the Year Awards in 2008, 2011, and 2015. Maddon didn't even know about the raise until reporters told him about it on Thursday and he was very humble by it all. "Honestly, when this all came about, my first thought was the more you could make, the more you could give back," Maddon said. "That's pretty much the concept I've been working from since I've been here."
