Pittsburgh pitcher Gerrit Cole gave up just three hits in eight innings and Jung-ho Kang drove in both runs as the Pirates defeated the Cubs to salvage game three of the series for the Pirates on Sunday afternoon.
“I don’t really think they’re the best team in baseball, so it’s just one game at a time," Cole said to reporters without holding anything back. The Cubs are still 6-1 in the last seven regular season games against the Pirates and 9-3 in their last 12 games dating back to last season. In the last six games, the Cubs have outscored the Pirates 38-13. Chicago still has the best record in the majors at 27-9 and are eight games ahead of the Pirates in the National League Central standings.
