Cubs get good news on Heyward's MRI

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward had an MRI on Saturday afternoon and the results were good news for the Cubs.

The Cubs announced that Jason Heyward had a contusion on his right side/rib area and will not need to go on disabled list.

However, he is expected to be out three to five days while Matt Szczur has been called up from Triple-A and Neil Ramirez has been designated for assignment.

Szczur will be available for tonight's game.

The Cubs will have twelve pitchers and thirteen positional players for the current road trip.

Heyward was injured after making an amazing catch and then crashing into the right-field wall in the first inning against the Giants on Friday night. Heyward rolled over in obvious pain but held on to the ball before grabbing his right side. He walked off on his own power after a few minutes under the supervision of the team athletic trainer.
