Former Cubs outfielder suspended for PEDs |
Former Cubs outfielder Nate Schierholtz was suspended by major league baseball on Friday for 80 games after testing positive for Ibutamoren, a performance-enhancing substance.
Schierholtz had a decent year with the Cubs in 2013 batting .251 with 21 homers, 32 doubles, and 68 RBIs. He re-signed with the Cubs in 2014 but batted .195 and was subsequently released in August of that year. He tried to land with the Nationals and Rangers before playing for the Hiroshima Carp in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball league last season. In 2016, he was released on May 22 by the Detroit Tigers after playing 46 games at Triple-A Toledo where he only batted .246. For his MLB career, he batted .253 with 52 homers, 228 RBIs, and an on-base percentage of .302 and was a member of the 2010 World Series team with the San Francisco Giants.
