Cubs News: Fowler buys Almora a Louis Vuitton wallet

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs rookie outfielder Albert Almora Jr. spent his first off day on the road recently with some of his teammates including Jake Arrieta, Kris Bryant and Dexter Fowler.

Veteran outfielder Dexter Fowler decided to purchase the rookie a lavish gift for his first major league hit against the Philadelphia Phillies.

“I got him a little something,” Fowler said via ESPN's Jesse Rogers. "You know, congratulations on his first hit in the big leagues."

“Dexter bought me a Louis Vuitton wallet,” Almora said. “It was unbelievable. I was going to buy it myself, and he picked it up and said, ‘You’re not buying that.’ I don’t know how many hugs I gave him. I thanked him, I thanked his wife, I thanked his whole family. They took care of me really well.”

Almora has had such a memorable week since being called up by the Cubs.

“What stands out for me is getting that first win in Philadelphia, my first hit, my first assist,” he recalled. “Those are things I’ll cherish forever. Then hanging out with the guys. This team is unbelievable.”
