Cubs News: Kyle Schwarber: "I might join them in Cleveland"

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs catcher Kyle Schwarber played on Saturday night for the Mesa's taxi squad in the Arizona Fall League. He was cleared by the doctor that did his surgery on Monday and headed to Arizona on Wednesday to get some real game action last night.

"It was overall a really great day for me," Schwarber said in a postgame interview via the Chicago Tribune. "The first two I chased a little bit. Today was about the at-bats. Running was not a factor."

Schwarber was not upset that he missed the celebration with this teammates as they clinched the first World Series berth since 1945.

"No. Those guys deserve it, I was just getting my work in. I might join them in Cleveland (for the World Series). It's either cheering or whatever it is, I'm all in for it."

The Cleveland Indians will have home-field advantage in the World Series so the Cubs will have four games to use a designated hitter. The first World Series game starts Tuesday in Cleveland.

In 2015, Schwarber hit .246 with 16 home runs, 43 RBIs with an excellent .842 OPS in only 69 games (273 at-bats) in his rookie season. In nine career postseason games, he hit .333 with five homers in only nine games.
