Cubs News: Kyle Schwarber surgery update |
Chicago Cubs left fielder
Kyle Schwarber is scheduled to have surgery this week on his left knee according to Joe Maddon.
The Cubs have waited to schedule the surgery until now so that the knee swelling would go down substantially. Schwarber will miss the remainder of the season due to full tears of his right ACL and LCL and a severely sprained ankle. The injury occurred during an outfield collision with center fielder Dexter Fowler in Arizona on April 7. Schwarber will have a lengthy rehabilitation in 2016 but plans to be ready for the 2017 baseball season. Second-year outfielder Jorge Soler has been receiving most of the playing time since the left field absence of Schwarber. In 2015, Schwarber hit .246 with 16 home runs, 43 RBIs with an outstanding .842 OPS in only 69 games (273 at-bats) in his rookie season. Thank you all for the encouragement. This is a test of character and plan to attack it head on. This team is special and fun to watch! #Cubs
