Cubs News: Lester on World Series: "We got to get ready to fight"

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs veteran pitcher Jon Lester is happy that the Cubs have made the 2016 World Series but knows that they have not accomplished their main goal.

“We ain’t done anything yet,” Lester said to reporters on Saturday night. “Nobody likes second place.”

“I don’t want to sound like a smart-ass, but we got a long ways to go,” Lester said.

Lester knows that the Indians are just as motivated to win a title as the Cubs players.

“Come Tuesday; we got to put the gloves back on. We got to get ready to fight and grind and do what we’ve done well all year. We got four more games to win.”

Lester was 19-5 with 2.44 ERA with 197 strikeouts and a 1.02 WHIP this season. In three postseason starts in 21 innings, he gave up only 14 hits, two runs, two walks, and 14 strikeouts going 2-0.
