Schwarber helps Cubs during 2016 MLB Draft

by - Senior Editor -

Kyle Schwarber will not play baseball again in 2016 but that has not stopped him from supporting the Cubs with scouting and the recent 2016 MLB Draft.

"He’s always looking for ways to contribute to the organization," Epstein said to reporters on Friday. "He’s been helping the advanced scouts, been breaking down opposing hitters. It was neat for us to have him sit in the draft room for three or four days and help out the scouts, add some levity to the room. It was great having him around."

Epstein reiterated that there is no chance that Schwarber will be ready to play in 2016.

"He’s ruled out, and we’re getting him ready for spring training next year," Epstein said.

In 2015, Schwarber hit .246 with 16 home runs, 43 RBIs with an outstanding .842 OPS in only 69 games (273 at-bats) in his rookie season.
