Will Cubs pull the trigger on a left fielder?

by - Senior Editor -

The Cubs are the hottest club in major league baseball with a 24-6 record which is the team's best 30-game start since 1907 and currently on an impressive seven-game winning streak.

Basically, everything is grand for the Cubs.

However, the Cubs have not reached the World Series since 1945 so Cubs management will examine every opportunity to bolster their team before the trade deadline.

ESPN senior writer Jim Bowden recently said the following about the Cubs adding to their outfield depth.

"Possible Trade targets for Cubs between now and deadline could be dominated by left fielders with Kyle Schwarber injured and Jorge Soler not hitting," Bowden said. "Options could include Carlos Gonzalez, Jay Bruce, Nick Markakis, Ryan Braun and Josh Reddick."

Braun is an interesting option as he is batting .367 with seven homers and 24 RBIs this season and has a contract that runs through the 2021 season. He has a no-trade clause but it might be waived to playing for a contending club like the Cubs.
